Sensex Rejig Alert: Hindalco [HINDALCO] or Shriram Finance [SHRIRAMFIN] Set for Entry, Trent [TRENT] Likely Out, Says Nuvama
Significant changes are anticipated in the BSE Sensex next month, with Nuvama predicting the potential inclusion of either Hindalco Industries or Shriram Finance, while Trent is expected to exit.
The Indian stock market is abuzz with expectations of a significant reshuffle within the benchmark BSE Sensex. According to market analysis by Nuvama, investors should prepare for potential changes to the index's composition, with a key announcement expected soon.
Nuvama's projections indicate that either aluminium major Hindalco Industries [HINDALCO] or the prominent financial services provider Shriram Finance [SHRIRAMFIN] is poised for inclusion in the Sensex. The entry of either of these large-cap entities could attract substantial passive investment inflows, given that index-tracking funds would be mandated to add them to their portfolios. Such an inclusion typically provides a fillip to the stock's liquidity and investor interest.
Conversely, Trent [TRENT], the retail arm of the Tata Group, is anticipated to be excluded from the Sensex. This potential removal is attributed to a dip in its free-float market capitalization, a crucial criterion for index eligibility. An exclusion often leads to selling pressure from passive funds that are required to divest their holdings.
Nuvama analysts predict that the official announcement regarding these changes could be made as early as May 22, 2024. Should these predictions hold, the revised Sensex composition is expected to become effective from June 19, 2024. Investors tracking these stocks and index-based funds should keep a close watch on these dates, as the rebalancing events can trigger notable trading activity and short-term price movements.
